Margie Castleberry Haddox

Margie Haddox currently serves as the Senior Director of Expansion and Low Vision Programs for Sight Savers America.  Margie contributed to the founding and development of the original corporation, Sight Savers of Alabama. Starting in 1997, she volunteered full time for almost four years until she was hired as the first full time Sight Savers staff member for children’s eye care in Oct 2000.

From 1997 until 2002 Margie helped shape the policies and procedures for the Eye Care Services Department and participated in the development of Sight Savers’ hallmark – case management of children’s eye care. She set-up the structure of the Eye Care Services Department and organized the first Sight Savers patient files. Margie acquired and set-up the first Sight Savers database (ACT software) and the second database (filemaker) that was used for patient records until 2007. She operated and managed the beginning and early years of this department until she turned over its management to her staff, so she could focus on facilitating the development of the Low Vision Services Department.

In 2002, Margie worked closely with the CEO to develop the Low Vision Services Department. This department is unique, there is no other organization that identifies legally blind children and provides them with high tech assistive technology in their homes on a statewide scale to hundreds of children each year. She has been the Director of that department since its creation. She and her staff have made low vision a highly recognized and respected department within Sight Savers throughout Alabama and Mississippi and she is currently working on a national expansion of the Low Vision Services Department. The Low Vision Department now has programs in eight states, including California, Texas and Illinois.

Margie has two daughters and lives in Chelsea with her husband, Jeff.
