What Parents Should Know

Sight Savers provides follow-up eye care services to qualified school children who fail vision-screenings as well as children who are referred via other sources including teachers, school administrators, school nurses, eye-care professionals and parents. Although vision screenings can identify the potential for a vision problem, they are not diagnostic. Only a comprehensive vision examination performed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist can diagnose and/or treat a vision problem.

Screening agencies in Alabama have chosen to refer almost all of Alabama children who fail vision-screenings to Sight Savers America. Sight Savers is the recognized benchmark for follow-up eye care services in the industry. Our child referral network, volunteer eye care provider network, and Sight Savers’ staff work as a team to ensure that each child receives world-class eye care—from initial examination to completion of treatment.

Treatments provided by Sight Savers include the following:

  • Eye Exams
  • Eyeglasses
  • Medication
  • Surgery
  • Vision Therapy
  • Vision aids for children with low vision
