HOUSTON, TX – A sight for sore eyes. For most is just a saying, but for 9-year-old Martin Velasco; it means so much more.
You see, Martin has Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease, an inflammatory disorder that affects his vision. Martin sees only 20/400, in his better eye with very little vision in the other.
Thanks to U of H’s College of Optometry, Optelec, a technology manufacturer for the visually impaired, and Sight Savers America, Martin will be able to see just a little easier with the help of an electronic video magnifier.
“It makes it a lot easier for me to do my Legos, homework and read,” said Martin.
Dr. Ana Perez with the U of H Center for Sight Enhancement says, “This CCTV is going to provide him the ability to not only see small print off of a textbook, but also focus things far away.”
Marty has a magnifier at school, but now he’ll have one at home, that will make simple things, like watching TV, or even playing a game a little easier.
